There was a
growing anxiety among the friends, family and political associates of
the immediate past Minster of Petroleum Resources, Mrs. Diezani
Alison-Madueke, on Thursday as rumours made the round that the ailing
minister had died on Thursday.
The fact
that Alison-Madueke is being treated for cancer in the United Kingdom
heightened the rumour as many reports on the social media reported her
death.
However, her lawyer, Mr. Oscar Onwudiwe, debunked the rumour of the former Minister’s death.
When contacted on the telephone, he said, “It’s not true.”
The United
Kingdom National Crime Agency had in October 2 arrested the former
minister over allegation of corruption and released her on bail
Meanwhile,
a human rights activist and Executive Director, Women’s Consortium of
Nigeria, Mrs. Olabisi Olateru-Olagbegi, died of cancer on Wednesday at
the age of 62.
The
President of Women Arise and Campaign for Democracy, Dr. Joe
Okei-Odumakin, in a series of tweets on her Twitter handle on Thursday,
expressed shock over her death.
